Explaining the Gospel Message

In the 7/30/16 evening service of Bethel's 5th Weekend Meeting, Elder Bryce Lowrance examines the narrative in Acts 8 of Philip's encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch. He then takes the congregation through Isaiah 53, the prophecy that perplexed the eunuch's mind, showing how Philip explained the content of the gospel in terms of the substitutionary atonement of Christ. Elder Lowrance concludes the message by returning to Acts 8 and the eunuch's believing response to Philip's message.

The Not So Secret Rapture

This sermon by Elder Bryce Lowrance explores numerous, New Testament passages related to the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ in order to show that it will be a momentous event that consummates both human and redemptive history. Brother Bryce refutes from Scripture the popular dispensational idea of a secret rapture, and emphasizes that the Redeemer's glorious return will be universally visible, simultaneously a day of redemption for the righteous and a day of judgment for the wicked. He calls that long anticipated day "that great gettin' up mornin'."

Grace Plus Nothing

In this first message from Bethel's 5th Weekend Meeting, Elder Bryce Lowrance takes his text from Jude 1-2, then moves to the first chapter of Ephesians, to emphasize the thrilling truth that salvation is by the grace of God plus nothing. 

Enoch, Man for Our Times

In this 7/10/16 sermon, Elder Michael Gowens leads the congregation in a biographical study of an obscure Bible character, Enoch, the seventh from Adam. From the three Bible passages that mention this man -- Genesis 5, Hebrews 11, Jude 14 -- Enoch's life and testimony emerges as a model for people living in the last days. Gowens highlights four particular lessons we may glean from the life of Enoch: (1) It is possible to consistently walk with God by faith, in spite of the challenges of living in an apostate society; (2) God honors those who honor and please Him; (3) Death and mortality will not have the final word for God's children; (4) The Lord is coming again to balance the scales of justice and to make all wrongs right.

Jesus Heals the Paralytic Man

From the account of Jesus healing the paralytic man in Mark 2:1-12, Michael Gowens draws several pertinent lessons for people today. We may learn from this account that the best expression of love to others is to bring them to Jesus, what a blessing it is to have Christian friends, that we are often blessed because of others, that the greatest need people have is spiritual, not physical, and many other lessons. This message was preached on July 3, 2016. 

Set Your Affection on Things Above

In the final service of Bethel's Communion Meeting, i.e. Sunday 6/26/16, Elder Ricky Harcrow (AL) preached from Colossians 3:1-4, exhorting us to make the things of Christ and His service the priorities of our lives.

Yokes: Heavy & Easy

In the Saturday evening session of Bethel's Communion Meeting (6/25/16), Elder Ricky Harcrow (AL) took his text from Galatians 5:1. He contrasted the heavy yoke of bondage to the law and the easy yoke of rest in Jesus Christ. 

The Gospel - A Testimony of Christ

Elder Ricky Harcrow (AL) was the guest minister for Bethel's 2016 Communion Meeting. He delivered this message from John 5:39 during the opening session on June 25, 2016. Elder Harcrow shows that it is only as we grasp the truth of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ that the complete picture of the Bible may be clearly seen. Those who understand this message are the most privileged people in history.

Come, Join the Chorus

This message, based on Psalm 107, was preached by Elder Mike Gowens on 6/12/16. Like a gospel song consisting of four stanzas, each tied together by a common refrain, or chorus, this Psalm develops four distinct pictures of distress, yet shows how the Lord delivers His people in response to their prayers, resulting in a call to praise such a good God.

A Father's Greatest Legacy

This 6/19/16 message was delivered by Michael L. Gowens on Father's Day, 2016. Taking his text from Hebrews 11:21, Gowens shows that although Jacob was not a perfect father, he did, at least, understand the principle that every father exercises a generational impact on his children, whether for good or for evil. Of all the things a father may do to impact future generations, the most important is to set an example of godliness, authentic faith and love for the worship of God.
