Elder Michael Gowens completes his exposition of the Beatitudes with this 11/1/2020 message from Matthew 5:13-16. This passage forms a kind of bridge in Jesus' sermon, connecting the section on Christian Character (vs 3-12) with the following section on Christian Ethics (vs 17ff). This passage asserts that Christian discipleship is neither monastic (world-escaping) nor materialistic (world-embracing), but mediatorial, or world-engaging. Christ intends his followers to influence the world with the new standards of the kingdom of God.
